ABSTRACT
Moltmann held that there should be a revolution in the concept of God. The identity-crisis of Christianity is essentially a question of God. The God governing Christian existence is the one who was crucified on the cross. At the core of Christianity is the history of the man from Nazareth. Christian faith finds itself in a different God-situation. It is defined through the passion of God and the cross of Christ. A theology of the cross must become part of a trinitarian theology. The doctrine of the Trinity is a description of the God-situation on the cross of Christ. Our optimistic society believes in the idols of action and success, which leads people into apathy and despair. Our churches must become Christ’s church and destroy the idols. We must proclaim the suffering and the crucified God. We must discover the meaning of suffering and sorrow. Based on the current situations of the Chinese church and the world, this paper affirms the significance of the passion of Christ for contemporary theology.
