ABSTRACT
The opinions of whether other religions’ salvations are valid or not are diversified among evangelical scholars; yet they all oppose the hypothesis of religious pluralism proposed by John Hick. Hick thinks that different world religions represent different manifestations of the same ultimate Real. Therefore they all provide the same soteriological power, that is changing the living attitude of the believers from self- centeredness to Reality-centeredness. This article studies the critique of Hick’s hypothesis by the famous Anglican evangelical scholar Alister E. McGrath, and also evaluates McGrath’s post-enlightenment approach of religious pluralism. It shows that McGrath’s hypothesis may produce even more open the diverse religious situation. The author points out that although the evangelicals do not expect the conclusion of that situation, there is no serious mistake committed, because it has been the greatest interest that McGrath fights for Christianity in the postmodern era.
