ABSTRACT
This article explores the social teachings of the Hong Kong churches through case studies of three church leaders (Bishop Peter Kwong of the Anglican Church, President Rev. James Cheung of Alliance Bible Seminary, and General Director Rev. Kwok Nai-wang of the Hong Kong Christian Institute). The mainline churches saw both evangelism and social responsibility as being of equal importance. The evangelical churches consider evangelism unique and primary. The Christian activists focus on participation in social action. Their social participation was consistent with their social teachings. It was fundamentally based on their own understanding of the mission of the Church and the contemporary socio-political situation in Hong Kong.
