保守與開放──試論徐松石早期的宗教對話/蘇遠泰、何慶昌

吳宗文評價徐松石為持守聖經的基要主義者,我們以為,從他晚年的作品來說還是可以的,但以其三、四十年代的著作來說,這評價卻不能準確地描述徐氏在宗教對話上既保守又開放的態度。本文嘗試就三本徐松石的早期著作,指出徐氏思想內的批判性和開放性。文章分別討論早期徐松石的宗教對話觀、釋經觀、佛化基督教、儒化基督教,從中窺見徐松石的包容主義立場。本文非旨在批評他保守或開放的立場,而是要指出,忠於信仰的神學工作者、牧者在處理本色神學時,保守和開放的態度往往混在一起。
ABSTRACT
The authors contend that Wu Zongwen’s assessment of Xu Songshi that he was a biblical fundamentalist is only valid for Xu in his later years. Wu’s assessment is inadequate to describe the Xu in 1930s and 1940s, whence he held both conservative and open views toward religious dialogue. Through the illustration of three of his early works, the article demonstrates Xu’s critical and open-minded spirit. By studying Xu’s biblical interpretation, the article demonstrates Buddhistized Christianity and Confucianized Christianity, it exhibits his inclusivism in religious dialogue. The purpose of the article is not to criticize Xu for his “conservative” or “open” position, but to demonstrate with his case that a faithful theologian and pastor does not always have a “conservative” or “open” bias when working on indigenized theology, but takes a stance that is somewhere in-between.
