本文以當代中國一位新生代基督徒知識分子——余杰為研究對象。如同前言所云：余杰是上世紀七十年代出生，畢業自名校的高級知識分子，在社會上頗具名氣。他是第一代信徒，信教與家庭背景無關；而更值得注意的是，他沒有將基督信仰局限於私人領域，反而勇敢地把它作為批判社會和文化的利器，在公共論壇上發表各種言談。這是一個饒富特色的基督徒知識分子的個案，對我們了解內地新生代知識分子的信仰抉擇，信仰於他們的個人感情、學術思想，以至公共生活中所產生的作用，都有甚大的幫助。

ABSTRACT

This essay focuses on a new generation of contemporary Chinese Christian intellectuals. Yu Jie, our study target, was born in the seventies of the last century. He was graduated from a big name university, and had been well received by the society. He is a so-called “first generation” Christian, who has no Christian family background. More notable is the fact that he has made his faith public, and used it as a tool to criticize the society and culture. His thoughts are out in the public arena. This case analysis helps to understand how the “new generation” intellectuals view their faith, and what part does the religious belief take in their affection, intellectual pursuit, as well as public lives.
