The New Milestone of the Research Center for Christianity and Chinese Culture

The Christianity and Chinese Culture Research Center of Alliance Bible Seminary was established in 1993 to help Hong Kong churches understand China and usher in 1997. With the rapid changes and diversification of the social situation in Hong Kong, many issues of the times require reflection on faith. However, most churches in Hong Kong are small and medium-sized churches with 200 or less members. Church leaders are absorbed in daily affairs and there is no room for in-depth reflection on issues of the times. .

The Seminary has an unshirkable responsibility for this, and cross-disciplinary and integrated research is also the general trend. Therefore, under the leadership and encouragement of Dean Choy Siu-ki, the research center’s coordinating role in the research affairs of the seminary will be strengthened. The acronym for the center will also be changed from “cultural center” to “research center” to reflect its new focus. The new focus of the research center’s ministry is as follows:

1) Broaden the scope
The research center will gradually expand the research fields it supports, from focusing on Chinese society and culture to more comprehensive theological research, including interpretation, history, doctrine, and contemporary situations. The research results will be coordinated and published by the research center, and the original work of Alliance Bible Seminary Publishing Department will be incorporated into the center’s ministry.

2) Strengthen ties
Strengthen contact with denominations and churches, welcome denominations and churches to suggest research areas as needed. The research center will try to invite and match related scholars, hoping to respond to the needs of the church’s ministry, and to help the church understand the importance and applicability of different fields of theological research and advanced degree studies.

3) Make good use of resources
Establish an online academic database to serve the church and the public, and use the resources and results of the regular teaching and research activities of the seminary to facilitate the use of pastors and believers.

In the past few years, the staff of this institute have begun to work hard in these areas and have accumulated a certain amount of experience. Now we hope to continue to deepen with the new milestones of the research center, and ask for help!
