香港客家基督徒鄉紳貢獻——彭樂三的個案研究 / 陳智衡

巴色會傳教士於十九世紀來到香港後,主要向客家人傳教。在巴色會的教會中,新界粉嶺的崇謙堂是其中一個獨特的客家鄉村教會。二十世紀初,崇謙堂村的巴色會華人傳道人彭樂三決定辭職,成為商人及地主鄉紳。他對附近鄉郊社區有極大貢獻,備受本地鄉紳所肯定。與此同時,他雖然沒有再擔任傳道人聖職,卻沒有離開基督信仰。所以他亦是教會的義務傳道人,後更成為基督教香港崇真會的領袖。

 

ABSTRACT

The missionaries of The Basel Mission began their work in Hong Kong in the 19th century with Hakka-speaking people outreach. Tsung Kyam Church(崇謙堂)was one of the special and unique Hakka rural churches in Fanling of the New Territories. Pang Lok-sam(彭樂三)was a Chinese preacher of The Basel Mission in Shung Him Tong Tsuen(崇謙堂村)in early 20th century. After he resigned from his pastoral ministry, he became a landholder and community leader. He contributed a lot to the rural society of the time and was appreciated by local rural leaders. Although he was not a churchman anymore, he did not give up his faith. He became a volunteer preacher in the church and a leader in Tsung Tsin Mission of Hong Kong (基督教香港崇真會).
