ABSTRACT

This article inquires into the pneumatology of Dr. John Song. First it investigates how personal experiences had influenced Song’s theological perspective, then discuss his view of the three aspects in experiencing the work of the Holy Spirit throughout Christians’ life, and also how in three ways the Spirit relates to one’s progress of sanctification. At last it discusses Song’s pneumatology and that of the contemporary Charismatic movement, and investigates how his point of view has inspired Chinese churches hereafter. In the author’s view, Song’s pneumatology can be regarded as most open and unbiased among Chinese Christian leaders of the early twentieth century. Song affirmed experiences of Charismatic renewal, yet questioned contemporary Charismatic phenomenon, and even criticized Charismatic movement; and his stance on Charismatic movement has been inherited by most Chinese Christian leaders after him.
